Lincoln Elementary School will host a ‘Sole Hope’ service activity on Saturday, April 2, from 9-11 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium. At the event, participants will begin the process of making shoes for children in Uganda, with the goal of reducing the incidence of chigger bites when the children are barefoot.
Members of the Dubuque community are invited to participate and can RSVP by calling Lincoln Elementary School at (563)552-4050. A $10 donation is requested for each adult participant to help cover costs of shipping the completed shoe parts overseas and to pay the shoemaker.
The event will begin with a brief introduction to the project by Grace Keith, a Lincoln parent who has been involved in this initiative, as well as a short video about the Sole Hope project. The remainder of the time focus on volunteers making shoe parts.
Materials will be provided to participants. Additional denim material (worn blue jeans or other articles), safety pins and black permanent markers are needed if participants can bring them.
