As the Lincoln School Counselor, I provide a comprehensive, curriculum-based, developmental guidance and counseling program. This program is available and responsive to ALL students, and focuses on the three core developmental values of social/emotional, academic, and career development. As the facilitator of this program, I provide a confidential, emphatic, and safe environment for students to share and explore their thoughts and/or concerns.

Counseling Curriculum

The DCSD elementary counselors have followed a counseling curriculum based on Dubuque Community School District goals. Some of the topics we cover are:

  • Friendship
  • Self Acceptance
  • Feelings
  • Loss/Life Changes
  • Understanding Others/Respecting Diversity
  • Conflict Resolution/Violence Prevention
  • Decision Making
  • Wellness
  • Communication
  • Careers/Work Awareness
  • Social Skill Development

Lincoln School Counseling Program

We believe in the development of the whole child; academic, emotional, behavioral, and social. We work hard to develop a child’s sense of self-worth and, therefore, a positive attitude. With a positive attitude, the individual will display positive behaviors and be better prepared to handle life situations. Such an individual volunteers to help, accepts decisions and responsibilities, encourages others, expresses honesty, and copes during difficult times.

The Lincoln Elementary School Counselor provides…

  • Classroom guidance lessons
  • Individual counseling
  • Small group counseling
  • Consultation with parents, teachers, and support staff
  • Referrals to other professionals and community agencies
  • Support for students, families, and staff
  • Community Outreach

How Does a Child See the Counselor?

  • Self referral
  • Teacher referral
  • Parent referral
  • Principal referral
  • Referral by a friend

As your student’s school counselor, I welcome communication between home and school.
